The Fountain School continues its exploration of digital theatre in our third show of the season.
More than any year in recent history, 2020 has challenged us to examine our interactions with other human beings and the natural world outside our windows. This project sets out to examine whether the technologies that we are embracing are acting as windows of opportunity or barriers that inhibit a truer connection. Four loosely interconnected stories will examine how our digital lives are colliding with our real world, face-to-face existence and how we are being challenged to evolve.
For the second year in a new direction for the school, the third-year actors devise a theatrical production from scratch—this year embracing the limitations and opportunities of digital theatre. Working within a series of artistic constraints agreed upon with the design team, the students will draw on their individual humanity, talents, opinions, and their own love of theatre to create and share an original personalized creation.
Director Matthew Thomas Walker is a multi-award winning theatre artist who joined the Fountain School faculty in 2018. He is also Co-Artistic Director for Toronto-based Litmus Theatre, a Dora Award-winning indie theatre company, which creates intimate and surprising site-specific shows. Matthew has taught, directed, and been a panel member for various educational institutions and theatre organizations throughout Canada. He is an alumnus of Dalhousie’s Acting Program (BA with Hons.) and York University (MFA in Theatre Performance).
