Rabbi Nasan Maimon. Breslov Torah, Birkhas HaPeyros. Remembrance of Sarah Imeinu on Rosh Hashanah; spiritual aspects of finding lost articles; finding one’s soulmate; precedence to fruits of Eretz Yisrael. Zechiras Amalek; Tribe of Dan.
00:00 – Dedications and review of the halakha thus far.
This shiur is dedicated by Mrs. Chana Druck in honor of the yahrzeit of her father, Reb Abba b’Reb Yehuda HaLevi z”l on the 26th of Shevat.
This shiur is also dedicated by Dr. Michael Wetzler in memory of his father, Reb Aharon ben Mordechai z”l.
01:20 – This halakha is based on Likutey Moharan 2, Torah 87 and Torah 88, and on Likutey Moharan 188.
01:36 – PARAGRAPH 1b. Remembrance of Sarah Imeinu in the Torah reading of the first day of Rosh Hashanah and the birth of Rivka Imeinu in the Torah reading of the second day. The import of these two events and why they are essential elements of Rosh Hashanah. The spiritual aspects of finding lost articles.
06:00 – NOTE: the Arizal explains that the closing letters of the Alef Beis – MeNaTzPaCH – are b’gematria 280 which equals isha – woman – representing din – judgement. The Pey and Reish of the word “shofar” correspond to the PaR Dinim – 280 measures of judgement. The Shin Vuv is b’gematria “Av HaRachamon.” So the letters of the word shofar are conduits for the process whereby the Av HaRachamon is mamtik (sweetens) the PaR Dinim.
08:36 – Two days of Rosh Hashanah: First day: Dina Kashya – “Harsh Judgement”; second day: Dina Rafya – “Soft Judgement”. Brief mention of Kavanas (Intentions) of Elul, which will be explained in more depth in later sections of this halakha.
*12:14 – The importance of Eliezer finding Rivka Imeinu – the zivug (soulmate) of Yitzchak Avinu. Finding one’s soulmate is strengthened through the Torah reading of the second day of Rosh Hashanah.
*15:30 – Rebbe Nachman’s “specialty” is taking the ancient principles of the kabbalah and applying them in a practical way to life today. The general principal is: that every Jew needs to search for and elevate his own “missing articles” – the sparks of kedusha in this world that are relevant to his soul.
20:00 – “If a person says, ‘I struggled and I found’, believe him” (Megilah 6).
23:50 – Analogies for spiritual success from baseball and school report cards.
*25:59 – QUESTION about finding one’s soulmate as a result of searching for a lost article. RESPONSE: Finding one’s soulmate. It’s the mission of the man to search for his wife.
28:34 – PARAGRAPH 2. Birkhas HaPeyros. Precedence given to fruits of Eretz Yisrael. Reference to the story of The Lost Princess. The golden mountain described there is Har HaBayis in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem). Returning lost souls to Eretz Yisrael.
30:38 – Reference to Rebbe Nachman’s Story of the Lost Princess.
33:10 – Explanation heard from Reb Michel Dorfman z”l about Likutey Moharan 67 – Tisha B’Av – רָחֵ֖ל מְבַכָּ֣ה עַל־בָּנֶי֑הָ מֵֽאֲנָ֛ה לְהִנָּחֵ֥ם עַל־בָּנֶ֖יהָ כִּ֥י אֵינֶֽנּוּ “Rochel cries over her children, who have been exiled. She refuses to be consoled, because they are not there.” (Yirmiyahu/Jeremiah 31:14). “When something is not in its proper place, it can’t function properly.” [Editor’s Note: When we once asked Reb Michel Dorfman z”l “What is geulah (redemption)?” He replied: “Geulah is knowing one’s place.”]
34:57 – Why a fruit is held in the right hand when saying its blessing.
40:35 – NOTE: heard from Rabbi Felberbaum: correct meaning of Adon Olam is “Eternal Master”, (relating to time) whereas Adon HaOlam means “Master of the World” (relating to place).
42:28 – PARAGRAPH 3. The mitzvah to remember the evil of Amalek.
44:00 – Amalek was especially determined to attach Machaneh Dan – the encampment led by Shevet Dan – the tribe of Dan. Because they were last in the order of marching, the task of Dan was to gathered all the stragglers, lost souls, and lost articles.
48:24 – QUESTION about Tikkun HaBris. RESPONSE includes how Tikkun HaBris also applies to women.
55:00 – A person can achieve finding their “lost articles” by putting their yearning into tefilah (prayer) and enduring difficulties and embarrassments while trying to come close to true tzaddikim.
56:59 – QUESTION about Rebbe Nachman’s statement “I don’t know anything.”
