Explore the intersections of stop motion animation and monotypes. Join MGNE member and multi-media artist Susan Rostow as she discusses her collaboration in creating the innovative monotype-based stop-animations “Long Journey Home” (2108) and “Nested World” (2019). She is joined by Phyllis and Victor Merriam of thepostdigitalprintmaker and Beth Fein, three of the 42 print makers who participated in these animation projects.

Speakers:

+ Susan Rostow is a Brooklyn based multi-media artist who works with printmaking, sculptural books and animation. In addition to Rostow’s active career as an artist, she is an innovative inventor of printmaking methods and materials and is best-known as the creator of Akua inks—which many of us printmakers can’t live without. www.SusanRostow.com

+ Phyllis and Victor Merriam are the dynamic duo also known as the postdigitalprintmaker. Together, they investigate the synergy between technology and traditional printmaking. Their blog features the work of artists that incorporate technology into their traditional printmaking practices and have curated several gallery shows and written articles related to this topic. https://thepostdigitalprintmaker.tumblr.com/

+ Beth Fein is an artist based in California whose practice encompasses printmaking, performance, sculpture, and installation. She continually explores the transient nature of movement and integrating performance and visual art into each. It is equal parts conceptual and material, chance and choice. www.bethfein.com
