Through creative workshops, family portrait sessions and oral history interviews, Art Start celebrates strong families experiencing homelessness. With this project, Art Start seeks to inspire compassion and respect for the resiliency of the human spirit, both within families undergoing poverty related hardship as well as within NYC’s greater community, grappling with record rates of homelessness.
In 2015, we connected with 20 Art Start families to create family portraits and conduct oral history interviews to give a platform for families to determine how they want the world to see them, away from stereotypes and stigma about homelessness.
