This is a 1993 documentary exploring Irish Traditional Music in New York city. It focuses on people who left our shores on one way tickets to the big apple in the 1920’s and 1930’s and created a lonely departure back home, at a time when technology was not like it is now. Many of those people played Irish music or learned to play, as it was a connection with home. Irish traditional music is loved and appreciated the World over. Unfortunately that wasn’t always the case, particularly back home where it was often ridiculed, scoffed at and frowned upon by people who had no music in their heads at all.
That has all changed for the better. Foreign visitors who come to Ireland now ask where they can here Irish trad music, and that’s welcome.
